Standing Rocks Park Warming Shelter - Amherst, WI
A new 3,385 square foot, multi-purpose building in Portage County, Wisconsin, a facility for the community to use while hiking, biking, or skiing at Standing Rocks County Park. The building design opens to the surrounding landscape by incorporating large 2-story windows facing south for ample sun light in the gathering space which provides ample natural light and views out into the natural landscape which building users come to Standing Rocks Park to enjoy. The building layout was intentionally created to provide 24-hour access to a warming room and restrooms for skiers and bikers to utilize while participating in activities during times that the whole facility is not open. The building is meant to fit within the landscape while still creating its own visibility as a destination within the woods.
